Bulky items collection

If you have large household items you can’t donate, recycle, or take to a recycling centre, you can book a home collection through our bulky waste service.

Reusing items is better for the environment than recycling or disposal. Please consider:

What we collect

What we do not collect

We can not collect:

  • Vehicle parts
  • Green waste or logs
  • Cardboard
  • Asbestos
  • Fluorescent tubes
  • Building waste
  • External doors or windows
  • Kitchen cupboards, worktops or tiles
  • Fixtures and fittings
  • Bags of rubbish or soil
  • Clothes
  • Paint
  • Gas canisters

Please note:

  • Each collection day is charged separately
  • American-style fridge freezers cost £86 each
  • Some large items count as more than one item (for example: a corner sofa equals two items)
  • Costs will be shown clearly on the online booking form.

Please note: POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants) are harmful chemicals that break down slowly and can contaminate the environment. We will collect items containing POPs separately and must not be placed in your grey bin.

Log into your MyDacorum account, select the items you want collected, and choose from the available dates.

Book a Bulky Items Collection

On collection day

Please make sure you:

  • Place items out by 6.45am – Collections take place between 6.45am and 4.15pm.
  • Put items outside – We cannot collect from inside your home, garages, sheds or up/down steps.
  • Place items near the road – Put them where you indicated during booking.
  • Keep items visible and accessible – No blocked paths or obstacles.
  • List items accurately – We only collect the items listed in your booking.
  • Remove all contents – For example, empty fridges/freezers, remove items from shelves or cabinets.

Cancellations or changes

Via your MyDacorum account, you can:

  • Cancel your booking by midday the day before collection (for a refund)
  • Add, swap or replace items up to 24 hours before collection.

Take your items to a recycling centre

You can take bulky household items and garden waste to the Recycling Centres in Hemel Hempstead (Eastman Way) or Berkhamsted (Northbridge Road) free of charge. For more details, see our Recycling Centres page.
