Blue-lidded bin

We provide households with one 240-litre blue-lidded bin. We collect this bin fortnightly. Please leave your bin on the boundary of your property by 6.45am on collection day.
If you do not have a blue-lidded bin, you can request one using our online form.
What we can and can't collect
Your blue-lidded bin is for dry recycling. See our list below for full information. Please put all recyclable items in the blue-lidded bin loose, not in a bag. We will not accept recycling left in plastic bags.
All blue-lidded bins come with an A4 information sticker explaining what can be recycled. You may wish to print this out to use in your household: Mixed recycling sticker (PDF 1MB).
Are you recycling everything you can at home?
Dacorum Zero Waste Map
Many items that can't be recycled at home, can be taken elsewhere in Dacorum, This includes Recycling Centres, Terracycle drop-off points and shop take-back schemes. There are also many businesses, charities and organisations that help us reduce waste, such as refill shops, repair cafes, food-sharing schemes, and reusable nappy libraries. Discover them all on our Zero Waste map below:
Contamination
If the wrong items are in your bin, we won’t be able to empty it. Our crews will record the problem and leave an advisory note on your bin. You will need to remove the items before the next blue-lidded bin collection.
Even small amounts of contamination can add up across a round. This can result in a whole load being rejected at the recycling facility. It will then be sent to landfill instead. Not only is this a waste of materials but it also very expensive.
Excess waste
You can put excess recycling in a sturdy container (such as a bucket or washing up bowl) beside your blue-lidded bin. You can also take it to one of the local Neighbourhood Recycling Centres or to your nearest Recycling Centre.
Missed collections
If you put your bin out for collection on the correct day and we missed it, you can report it online. Please do this within 48 hours of your scheduled collection day.

Swap your bin size
We provide all households with a standard 240-litre blue-lidded bin. If you have access issues, you can request a small (140 litre) wheeled bin. We will need to assess this first.
If you regularly overfill your bin, you may be eligible for a larger 360-litre blue-lidded bin.
Find out more about swapping your bin size.
What we do with your waste
The contents of the blue-lidded bin is sent to a Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) facility in St Albans for sorting. Find out what happens to your recycling once it has been collected.
