Waiting restrictions
Yellow lines on the road indicate waiting restrictions, which also apply to the pavement and verge.
Single yellow lines
Where there is a single yellow line you can:
- Stop to load or unload (unless there are loading restrictions)
- Stop to let passengers in or out of your vehicle
Look for nearby signs (plates) that show the times when restrictions apply.
Double yellow lines
Double yellow lines mean no waiting at any time.
Other road markings
Times and days for restrictions are shown on nearby plates or entry signs to controlled parking zones.
If no days are shown, the restriction applies every day, including Sundays and Bank Holidays.
Traffic Regulation Orders
Waiting restrictions are legally enforced through Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs), under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Most TROs are made by Hertfordshire County Council.
You can view TROs that are enforced in Dacorum on the Traffic Penalty Tribunal’s website.
New Traffic Regulation Orders
We occasionally make TROs. We advertise these before they come into effect. Details of current consultations and recently made orders (within the last six weeks) are published online here:
