Submission of the Dacorum Local Plan to 2041
On Tuesday 11 March 2025, we submitted the Dacorum Local Plan to 2041 to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government for public examination.

Next steps
A Planning Inspector will now carry out an independent examination of the plan. Once details of the examination process are confirmed, they will be:
- advertised on Let's Talk Dacorum
- sent to all respondents.
This will include the dates for examination hearings set by the Planning Inspectorate.
New Dacorum Local Plan overview
The new Dacorum Local Plan is where the big decisions on planning for the future of our communities and the borough will be made. It sets out our approach to accommodating growth across Dacorum, the sites we are proposing, and the policies that will guide our decisions.
A key role of the Local Plan is to establish the amount and location of new development in Dacorum. It will:
- Identify where and when development should take place
- Deliver housing growth
- Support the local economy, employment and retail
- Address climate change
- Ensure new buildings are well designed
- Protect and enhance historic sites and the natural environment
- Enable the delivery of infrastructure.
Once adopted, the new Dacorum Local Plan will replace the Site Allocations Development Plan Document (2016), Core Strategy (2013) and ‘saved policies’ from the Dacorum Borough Local Plan (2004). We’re also working with neighbouring councils on a Joint Strategic Plan (JSP) for the South West Hertfordshire area. This will set out a strategic framework and shared priorities, and help us co-ordinate growth and infrastructure.

The Dacorum Local Plan to 2041 has been informed by the responses to our previous consultations - Revised Strategy for Growth (2023), Emerging Strategy for Growth (2020) and Issues and Options (2017).
