Bunkers Park 2025

Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace

Bunkers Park is a 120-acre (48-hectare) public greenspace in the south-east of Hemel Hempstead. It was once farmland for more than 200 years. Hedgerows which divided the land are still present today.

In 1995, the area was acquired from the New Town Commission and designated as an informal open space for Dacorum borough residents.

Hertfordshire and Middlesex Wildlife Trust designed the new park to encourage both recreation and wildlife. Thousands of trees were planted - many by local residents and schoolchildren - creating woodlands and a hazel coppice.

Today, the park - which has Green Flag status - has several different habitats, including meadows, hedgerows, and woodlands. These support a diverse range of plants and animals. We manage these in partnership with the Friends of Bunkers Park.

Visitors can enjoy a number of walking routes through these habitats. There are also access points throughout the site, allowing you to explore the wider area.
