Residents' parking schemes

Residents' parking schemes

We only create residents' parking schemes where commuters (for example, to shopping centres or railway stations) are causing problems, not when:

  • There is a lack of on-street parking due to too many resident-owned vehicles. We cannot limit the number of vehicles a household owns
  • Residents aren’t using their driveways.

View our current Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs).

CPZs do not guarantee:

  • A parking spot near your home (or a parking spot at all)
  • A complete stop to non-permit holder parking
  • Constant enforcement - we cannot patrol these zones at all times.

They also:

  • Don't operate overnight
  • Must not impact the local economy - there still needs to be parking for customers to local businesses
  • Need to allow free access to emergency vehicles (this may mean one side of a street has to be "no waiting at any time")
  • Cannot permit parking on yellow lines.

New parking schemes

We cannot currently fund any new residents’ parking schemes.

However, we keep a record of areas that might benefit from one. If you think your area should be included, contact your local councillor

For all other road schemes, such as yellow lines or speed humps, please contact Hertfordshire County Council.
