Green Community Grants
We offer Green Community Grants as part of our efforts to address the climate and ecological emergency. Depending on the size and impact of your project, you can apply for funding of £3,000, £5,000, or £10,000.
These grants support community projects that align with the aims of the Dacorum Climate Action Network, benefiting both the environment and Dacorum residents. The aim is to encourage local groups to "think global and act local" while tackling environmental challenges.
Application requirements
To qualify, applicants must show how their project addresses the climate and ecological emergency locally. Your project must focus on at least one (preferably more) of the following environmental themes:
- Energy in buildings: Projects that aim to reduce energy consumption, improve energy efficiency, or promote renewable energy solutions within buildings. This could include retrofitting insulation, installing solar panels, or encouraging the use of smart energy systems.
- Sustainable transport: Initiatives that promote environmentally friendly travel options, such as walking, cycling, shared transport schemes, or the use of low-emission vehicles. Projects could include creating bike-sharing programs, installing electric vehicle charging points, or improving infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists.
- Biodiversity and nature recovery: Efforts to protect and restore natural habitats, support wildlife, and increase green spaces. This might involve planting native trees, creating wildflower meadows, building wildlife corridors, or managing community gardens to promote biodiversity.
All projects must engage with or benefit the local community. Those with the most impact will receive funding.
Please note: projects focused on litter picking and fly-tipping are not eligible for funding. If you are interested in litter picking, please see our community litter pick page or our Street Champions scheme.
Levels of funding
We offer three levels of funding, based on the scale and goals of your project:
- £3,000: For small-scale or pilot projects
- £5,000: For medium-sized projects with broader reach and impact
- £10,000: For large-scale projects with significant, measurable benefits.
This tiered system ensures we can support a variety of projects, from grassroots initiatives to larger undertakings.
How to apply
The Green Grant scheme is currently closed for applications. It will open again in 2026.
