Hate crime
A hate crime is any crime that is targeted against a person because of their:
- disability
- race
- religion
- sexual orientation
- transgender identity
Not every crime committed against a person in one of these groups is a hate crime. It is only a hate crime if the offender targeted that person because of this reason.
Types of hate crime
Hate crimes can take almost any form. Examples include:
- threatening behaviour
- assault
- robbery
- damage to property
- inciting others to commit hate crimes
- harassment
- online abuse
Report a hate crime
You can report hate crime by:
- Contacting the Police by calling 999 if the crime is in progress or 101 in a non-emergency situation
- Going to the Report it website
