We've reached a major milestone with the completion of our 500th council home at our new development in Leverstock Green.

Tenants have begun moving into their new homes in St Margarets Way, a mix of one and two-bedroom flats and two and three-bedroom houses.

The 46 new homes are designed to be energy efficient and environmentally friendly. They are heated using air source heat pumps, which provide low-carbon heating and hot water. Each house also features rooftop solar panels that generate clean, renewable electricity - helping to reduce both energy bills and carbon emissions.

The development includes landscaped communal gardens, as well as bike storage and car parking areas with electric vehicle charging points.

St Margarets Way, funded by Homes England and built by the Helix Group, is another step forward to improving the supply of affordable housing in the borough.

In 2013, we launched our Building for the Future programme with an ambitious target to build 300 new homes by 2020. At the time, Dacorum hadn't built any new council homes in over 30 years, making this a significant challenge. Following the success of this programme, we set a new target to deliver a further 350 homes over the following five years. With the completion of St Margarets Way, we are on track to meet our target.

Last year we celebrated the completion of our 400th home at Randalls Ride in Hemel Hempstead. More recently, in February, we completed our Mountbatten View development in Hemel Hempstead, which won the gold award in the Hertfordshire Building Control Awards 2025.

Cllr Simy Dhyani, our Portfolio Holder for Housing and Property Services, said: “St Margarets Way is a significant milestone for Dacorum Borough Council. It marks a huge achievement in our commitment to providing high-quality, affordable homes, and ensuring that everyone has access to safe and secure housing. Reaching this landmark reinforces our mission to support the community and address the ongoing housing crisis.”
