Report a fire or structural safety concern

What you can report

You can raise concerns about fire or structural safety issues in a rented residential property. For example:

  • Fire alarms or smoke detectors damaged or not working
  • No fire extinguishers
  • Damage to fire doors
  • Poor or missing lighting/signage
  • Blocked landings or hallways
  • Building defects, such as cracks or parts falling off
  • Walls or fences in danger of collapse

If there's a fire happening now

If a fire is in progress or there is immediate risk of harm to a person, please call 999 and ask for 'Fire'.

Commercial and owner-occupied property

If your concern is about a fire risk in a commercial property, or if you live in an owner-occupied home, please contact Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue.

Emergency repairs to council homes

If you need to report an emergency repair for a council home, or if your council-owned home has already been damaged by fire, call our Freephone number 0800 018 6050 (calls are recorded).

Our out-of-hours emergency repairs service operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year (including Christmas Day).
