Tring tennis courts set for makeover
10 October 2024
We've teamed up with the LTA to invest in and refurbish public park tennis courts at Pound Meadow in Tring. Investment of £50,000 will be used to fully renovate two courts. This will ensure that quality facilities are available for the local community for years to come.
This project is part of a £30 million plan by the UK Government and the LTA Tennis Foundation to refurbish tennis courts across Great Britain, opening the sport up to many more people. More than 2,000 courts have already been brought back to life. New gate-access technology and online booking systems also make it easier for people to use the courts.
The Pound Meadow courts will be managed in partnership with Tring Tennis Club. Work is expected to start in early 2025 and be completed by late spring.
The work to the Tring courts follows on from renovations at three park venues in Hemel Hempstead at Reith Fields, Coronation Fields and Cupid Green.
All courts and sessions at our other park tennis courts are available to book online on the LTA website. Once the Pound Meadow project is complete, you'll be able to book court time there through the same user-friendly platform.
Alongside the investment at Pound Meadow, we'll be working with Tring Tennis Club and the LTA to deliver a range of activities across the park sites. This will include weekly Barclays Free Park Tennis sessions for all ages and levels. Equipment is provided. Local Tennis Leagues will also provide friendly, sociable opportunities to get active through local competition.
Adrian England, Leader of the Council, said: "We welcome this investment, which will improve people's experience on our outdoor tennis courts.
"Sport activities such as tennis can improve physical health, wellbeing and even mental health. We are looking forward to working with the LTA on this project, which will certainly have a positive impact on local communities.
"Once the courts have been refurbished, various sessions, activities and events will be held to give everybody the chance to learn and practise tennis and make the most out of our parks and open spaces.”
Scott Lloyd, LTA Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to be working with Dacorum Borough Council to improve their park tennis facilities.
“Park tennis courts are vital for providing people with opportunities to pick up a racket, and we want as many people as possible, of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, to enjoy playing tennis and being active. Thanks to this investment the sport will be opened up to more players, for years to come.”
