Recycling Centres now open for essential visits only

Both Hemel Hempstead and Berkhamsted Recycling Centres are now open for essential visits only. Essential visits are when you can't put your waste in your normal kerbside bins or safely store it at home.

The materials currently accepted are limited to:

  • garden waste
  • wood
  • rubble
  • non-recyclable waste
  • metal
  • electrical appliances
  • card

Textiles, rigid plastics, plasterboard and commercial waste is not currently accepted. There are no collection facilities for materials that you can recycle in your blue-lidded binIf you have excess recycling, you can put this out next to your blue-lidded bin on collection day in a sturdy container, such as a cardboard box.

Long queues are expected - make sure to check opening hours and the Recycling Centre webcams online before visiting.

Please ensure you sort your waste beforehand to speed up the process once inside the Recycling Centre. Staff will not be able to help you unload.

The Recycling Centres are managed by Hertfordshire County Council and the service is being constantly reviewed. For the most up to date information, please check the Hertfordshire County Council website.
